Szamotuły boasts many centuries of cultural tradition. It is here that the rich folk culture of Wielkopolska flourished, with its characteristic regional dress, dances, songs, legends, beliefs and customs. Now this tradition is cultivated by the Folk Ensemble "Szamotuły" led by Janina Foltyn. Contemporary cultural life is bustling, thanks to such cultural institutions as the Cultural Centre, the Górka Castle Museum and the “Górka Castle” Cultural Foundation, which organise various events attracting massive attention. The Cultural Centre offers both young people and adult passionates the chance to pursue and share their interests gathering them in various sections or circles devoted to dance, theatre, plastic arts, etc. The Alla Breve Choir under the choirmaster Andrzej Warguła is another cultural asset of our town. The Public Library promotes reading habits. The tradition of Szamotuły schools dates back to the 15th century, when the parish school was founded. Today, Szamotuły has 4 primary schools, a gymnasium and 3 school complexes with primary schools, gymnasiums (two-year post-primary schools), lycea (secondary schools of general education), technical secondary schools, vocational schools and a branch of the Poznań University of Economics. A network of primary and post-primary schools covers also other towns and villages of the Szamotuły region. The educational offer is supplemented by the School of Music, Community Music Education Centre and several private language schools.
